Off-Road to Shandur Top
Shandur Pass is legendary in Chitral, and rightly so. At 3,734 metres, the plateau hosts the world's highest polo ground, where an annual festival pits Chitral against Gilgit in matches that have been played here for centuries. Our route there is as memorable as the destination: a full day's drive across high-altitude terrain, crossing rivers, glacial fans and remote nomadic settlements. We spend a night at the top, waking to an otherworldly silence broken only by wind across the plateau. On the way back, we detour through the Laspur Valley.
Highlights
